ERS has also successfully completed a number
of projects in the private sector. Some examples
of the projects follow.
ERS assisted in the remediation of a minerals
mining and processing facility in Southern NJ.
The project consisted of excavation, loading and
transportation of 3,000 tons monazite sands shipped
as Radioactive LSA-1 Exclusive Use material from
the NRC licensed facility to International Uranium
Corp. (IUC) in Blanding, UT. The portion of the
approximate 7,000-acre site-requiring cleanup
was found to have titanium and zirconium as well
as measurable quantities of natural thorium and
uranium. Working with the client’s project
team, ERS provided all equipment to properly excavate
sands and place it into intermodal containers
situated on ERS provided pin chassis’s and
trucks. ERS personnel provided health physics
on site and released equipment for transportation
to ERS’s transload facility in Newark, NJ,
approximately 60 miles north of the site en-route
to the materials final destination at IUC.
In 2005, ERS was contracted to transport Class
7 radioactive material from a processing facility
located in Eastern Pennsylvania. The facility,
located on nearly 200 acres, manufactured tantalum
(Ta) and niobium (Nb) through the processing of
raw ore. The final products consisted of metal
powder, wire or sheet products used in the electronics
and medical industries. ERS provided the necessary
logistical equipment, supplies and support to
transport the contaminated material via intermodal
on rail to our trans-load facility in Utah and
subsequently via truck to the International Uranium
Corporations White Mesa Mill processing plant.
More detailed information and references for
these, and other projects can be provided upon
request.
